Michaël Fauchet

BIM coordinator and Architect

Founded in 1965 by a team of architects and engineers, AIA Associés is now a major multi-disciplinary consultancy company, providing a full range of combined expertise and services in architecture, engineering as well as in project management, urban planning and sustainable development.

With its collective management of 22 partners and its 600 employees, AIA Associés is able to offer a high level of commitment and know-how in sectors where the specificity of the activities and the complexity of the functions require innovation and synergy between architectural design, engineering, and many specialized fields of expertise.

The group is based in France (Lyon, Paris, Nantes, Lorient, Angers, Bordeaux, Tours and Rennes) and also in Shanghai and Geneva.

Many projects have been selected for locals and nationals prices, notably: the ENSM at Le Havre nominated for « l’équerre d’argent 2015 » ; The eastern hospital group at Saint-Paul La Réunion, laureate at the « BIM d’OR 2016 » ; the headquarters of Crédit Mutuel in Nantes, laureate of the « Grand Prix » of SIMI 2016 and ArchiDesignClubAwards 2017…

The urban and social engagement of the collective also resonates within the Fundation AIA Architecture, Health, Environment created in 2011 and editor of « Bien Vivre la ville » Ed. Archibooks.

Good morning, can you introduce yourself, your path, and your functions
inside of the group AIA – Life Designers?

Architect, I started in an agency in Brussels (Mainly doing modelling on the STAR-ARCHI software to create office building plans and computer generated imagery), then I worked for AIA Life Designers in Lyon. It has been 10 years since… In first place as a 3D specialist and imagery maker, because plans were made in 2D at this moment.

Now, I am BIM coordinator. I take care of BIM conception and BIM monitoring.

What BIM is bringing to the building sector?

BIM is bringing coherence within our projects and thus all along the process of conception until the end of the building site. We are building before building – we detect conflicts (structure – MEP – architecture) before the constuction site, we are better at quantifying projects, we visualize the project and write all the informations onto the 3D model, it is a solid database, useful for all interlocutors.

How do you think the BIM will evolve in France within the next years?

BIM is slowly moving forward. It is a good thing and it must keep going! The BIM allows us to be more focused and to bring back all interlocutors to the heart of the projects.

Why did you choose Bimmersive at AIA?

Bimmersive is the only solution that can help us to visualize our projects thanks to our numeric models.

How do you use this technology?

Bimmersive is legit at different levels for us. At the conception phase, it helps us to plunge into the project and provide a better visualization of created spaces. We are getting back on scale.

Then, Bimmersive allows us to review the project with our clients in two different situations:

  • Conception, co-conception with the users of the building.
  • Explaining our architectural choices.

What Bimmersive brought to you?

Bimmersive allows us to improve the visibility of our projects and for the client to facilitate his understanding.

Bimmersive also helps us to adopt a new way of communication innovative and very distinctive.
